Meet the Coaching Team

Our coaching team are all volunteers who dedicate their spare time to the club and have completed the England Athletics Coach in Running Fitness (CiRF) qualification or Leadership in Running Fitness (LiRF) certification. You will find them running our regular training sessions as well as leading some of our social runs. They have a wide range of running interests from social runs to trail ultra marathons!

I run for mental & physical health.  I wanted to start a running club to pay forward what I have got from running. I believe we can all use running to find community. It might be running but what you get from it is way more…

I enjoy pushing myself and especially enjoy trail ultras. I have recently discovered mountain ultras and the challenges that they bring and so I travel to the hills whenever I can.

Movement helps keep me sane! I’m passionate about fitness for life, not just running, but also dancing, cycling, walking and functional movement. I love being active with others and the positive impact movement and connection can have on our physical and mental wellbeing.

I started running in 2007 to try and help my body shake the damage done by years of smoking. Turns out I was quite good and haven’t stopped since. My happiest runs are on a Sunday, after work on a mucky trail with my daughter. Setting the world to rights!

Running for a club was my thing as a child. I rediscovered it in my 40s and HI Runners have inspired and encouraged me to do things I never thought I would, including triathlons and marathons. I run for health and wellbeing, friendships and self-discovery.

I run anytime, with groups, in pairs and by myself. I run for the sense of achievement and the head space. I enjoy encouraging other runners, even if that only involves shouting ‘great running’ as they overtake me.

I love all types of running – from a low key Saturday parkrun to the buzz of a big road marathon to a trail ultra weekend with friends. I’m easily convinced to sign up for almost anything! I am passionate about supporting my fellow club runners in whatever capacity they need, be that as a pacer, a chaser or a distracting small talk maker!

I started running in April 2023 to support my mental and physical health, and to help maintain a significant weight loss. I signed up to the Race for Life and trained for it by following Couch 2 5k. I’ve since done several marathons, multiple fitness races and a triathlon. I’m also a big fan of parkrun. I’m hoping to do a muddy obstacle course race, an ultra-marathon and an Ironman Triathlon in the next few years. I love being a HI Runner and I am now on the committee, a run leader and a mental health champion.

I have been a run leader with HI Runners for a couple of years now and have been to almost all of the sessions.  I started after Lockdown finished firstly to lose some weight but found I “Enjoyed it”.

I enjoy parkrun both running at the event and volunteering.  Bev and I have been to events in a variety of places, we are working on doing all of the runs in Cornwall but every time we nearly finish they keep opening a new one!!

Recently I have helped to run the Couch to 5K program and it's great to support people to achieve their goals, seeing people do something that they once thought was not possible is great.

It has been said that I am unable to smile in photos, very few photos have been improved by having my face in them. If I have to have my face in the picture you can almost guarantee it will only be half of it.

New Year’s Day Parkrun 2024 was my first ‘run’ in 20 years. Desperate not to be a drop-out stat, I joined HI Runners and what a great decision. As for many, life juggles means I often only squeeze in short runs, but they are so valuable! Having been bitten by the HI bug, I then took the LiRF course and joined the coaching team, aiming to help everyone, at whatever stage of their running journey, find the time and motivation to get out there and enjoy a run!
