Mental Health Champions
HI Runners supports every member's physical and mental wellbeing.
We’re proud to be a #RunAndTalk club through England Athletics and Mind, helping remove stigma and encourage open conversations about mental health. We regularly run #RunAndTalk sessions on the 3rd week of the month, rotating around the different training sessions. Join us to run, walk or talk at our next session.
Need help or someone to talk to? Our Mental Health Champions are here to listen, support and signpost.

I run to look after my mental and physical health, and to challenge myself. I joined HI Runners 3 years ago to become a more consistent runner. I thoroughly enjoy running with others and the social aspect of running. We have a very unique club that is inclusive and supportive and I have genuinely made lifelong friends.. My favourite type of running is still a 5k run, ending somewhere for a tea and cake!

Movement helps keep me sane! I’m passionate about fitness for life, not just running, but also dancing, cycling, walking and functional movement. I love being active with others and the positive impact movement and connection can have on our physical and mental wellbeing.

Running for a club was my thing as a child. I rediscovered it in my 40s and HI Runners have inspired and encouraged me to do things I never thought I would, including triathlons and marathons. I run for health and wellbeing, friendships and self-discovery.

I started running in April 2023 to support my mental and physical health, and to help maintain a significant weight loss. I signed up to the Race for Life and trained for it by following Couch 2 5k. I’ve since done several marathons, multiple fitness races and a triathlon. I’m also a big fan of parkrun. I’m hoping to do a muddy obstacle course race, an ultra-marathon and an Ironman Triathlon in the next few years. I love being a HI Runner and I am now on the committee, a run leader and a mental health champion.

I run anytime, with groups, in pairs and by myself. I run for the sense of achievement and the head space. I enjoy encouraging other runners, even if that only involves shouting ‘great running’ as they overtake me.

I joined HI Runners after following them on Facebook for a while. It was one of the best decisions I’ve made. I’m not a fast runner, but I never feel judged, everyone is encouraged to do the best they can on how they feel on the day. The social side of the club has given me more confidence in myself too.

When running I’m in my happy space, mentally and physically. You’ll find me on the trails, the muddier the better and usually planning the next ultra marathon adventure wherever it takes me.
